Dating Games by T.K. Leigh [Review]

Hey readers,

Don’t ask me how this book came to my hands, because I don’t remember buying it…ahah But I gave it a chance after reading the synopsis and it was a good surprise! I had just finish a fantasy/young-adult book and was in need of a good contemporary novel, and I found it in this book.

Dating games is part of the Dating Games series that is on the sixth book (one is a short story) and while each book in this series can be enjoyed separately as each stands on its own, for a best reading experience it is recommended to read in the order.

Dating Games tells the story of Evie, that after 12 years is dumped by her boyfriend, on her birthday! Upset, she goes to a bar where her best friends are waiting for the good news of an engagement. But when she gets there, she drinks so much that stands up and tell everybody at the bar what happened to her!

During her speech, she notices a gorgeous man wearing a suit and on the next day she wakes up in the same bed as the mysterious stranger.

Ashamed, Evie runs away thinking that she would never see the stranger again, even more in a city size of New York!

At work, Evie’s boss proposes a deal: if she writes a bombastic and unique article for the magazine, she will receive a promotion! And after listening her friend talking about the country’s most sought-after and elusive escort, Evie decides that an interview with that man is everything she needs to get the promotion.

But while waiting at the cafe, where she was told that the mysterious man goes every day, Evie meets another man: Mr.Suit aka Julian!

And she also sees her ex with his new girlfriend. After witnessing the entire encounter, Julian makes to Evie a proposition – be his fake girlfriend for a summer of wealth and excess in the Hamptons. In return, he will help her win back her boyfriend.

What I did like in this book?

I liked the fact that this is a modern retelling of Cinderella meeting her billionaire Prince Charming. I liked the fact that Evie was sassy and she and Julian were hot together!

You may ask, why do I like a book where the main character wants to get together with a guy that dumped her after 12 years? Because the author showed during the book Evie forgetting her boyfriend and on the contrary of what you may think, she didn’t talk about the ex, he just appear in one or two scenes. This is a book about Evie and Julian and that clear!

I also like the fact that this story was more substantive than I was expecting. Both characters presented layers to their past but together they grow. I love books where we see the characters evolve.

What I didn’t like…

I didn’t like the fact that I don’t need to be a genius to see who was Augustus (the escort)! Since the friend talked about him, it was so easy as one plus one…I kept expecting a twist, something unexpected…

Overall it was a nice and quick read and I do advice it to you!
